^true story...i'm an open listener but i've avoided punchline rappers for the past few years because i wanted to elevate past hot metaphors and make complete 16's that sort of tell a story...or just provides better imagery and emotion

I can't really say one is better than the other. I think mastering all three and using them all in a song is kind of rare these days though.

THE MASTERS & THE MASSES, One Has P O W E R ; The Other One LACKS IT
At times I'm in different modes and want to listen to different lyrical styles. If a had to only fuck with one it would be the metaphors, not staight punchlines that don't connect to form the concept. I'm talking about real metaphors and word play to make the song art. In battles, random set-up and punchline are the bread and butter. But to connect to your listener you need way more.
woah, i finished listening to a couple songs from chino xl for the first time and was blown away...this guy is a very talented song writer. complex wordplay and technique mixed with heavy punches and a drop of humour as well.
i'm guessing he was a big influence on em (who i consider the best, as far as english rap is concerned) because their style is pretty similar (fast, technical and similar flow even. but i'd say chino is better at singing). my only question is why is chino so damn underrated?
i don't thinkits "Better," but i prefer the 2nd form you listed
as i always find myself listening to big L's "lifestyles..." cd
